Research Participant Screening and Registry
Purpose: To determine your potential eligibility for studies being conducted at Auburn University.

What does participating involve? You will complete online surveys that typically take 5-10 minutes. Researchers will get in touch with you if you are eligible for other research studies.

Who is eligible? Anyone 18 or older can participate in the online portion. For the MRI, you must not have any metal implants, not be claustrophobic, and not have any serious medical or psychiatric conditions.

Perceptual and Attentional Influences on Moral Agency
Purpose: The purpose is to better understand how visual information influences the brain when making moral judgments. Previous studies have demonstrated specific psychological processes and brain regions are engaged during moral deliberation. However, the extent to which attention to moral stimuli informs these judgments is unclear.

What does participating involve? You will have a functional and structural scan that will take approximately 1-hr. During the MRI, you will lie still for a time and then make moral judgements based on images. You can earn research credit (up to 2 hours) and/or money (up to $50).

Influence of TMS on Attention Modulation
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to help understand how attention processes influence brain engagement during emotion and social cognition. We also want to know if these processes are associated with drinking alcohol.
What does participating involve? Participation includes three study visits of about 2 hours each over approximately a month. On the first visit, you will have a 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and answer some survey questions. On each of the next two visits, you will have a session of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS, a non-invasive brain stimulation technique) followed by another MRI scan. During parts of the scan, you will look at pictures on a screen and press buttons, and you will be asked to lie still during other portions. You can earn up to 6 research credits or up to $190.

Who is eligible? People in the Auburn/Opelika area 19 or older are eligible to participate. You may be eligible to participate if you can safely have TMS & MRI procedures, including not having any metal in your body, not claustrophobic, no stimulant use, and no history of seizure. We are recruiting people who drink alcohol, but also people who do not drink or don’t drink very much.
